Meet the 7DrumCity Team
All of our teachers actively play in bands, trained formally on drums, teach all styles of drumming, and are patient, fun, interesting people that love teaching. All our staff also actively play music and perform in the DC music scene.
As 7DC's owner and founder, I greatly respect and fully endorse all these guys. It's obvious to me that the personality of a teacher and the vibe of the learning environment greatly impact a student's learning experience.
In addition, it's also important to realize that YOU are your own best teacher... We look forward to meeting you and helping you get awesome at drums!
7DC Owner & Founder
Andrew is a really fun guy to get to know (watch out for puns), and will help challenge you to attain things you didn't think were possible. He's on-point, organized, reliable, and energetic. He specializes in helping experienced drummers get past their "brick wall," but has also taken dozens of beginners from zero experience to performing in shows. His professional but light demeanor makes students feel comfortable and engaged throughout the lesson. He'll teach you how to deepen your groove, drum fast, and crush your drumming goals.
Andrew has been playing for 20 years, and took private lessons for 15 years amidst performing and touring regularly, including a two-year world tour on a cruise ship as a show band drummer from 2007-2009. He currently gigs actively in DC with a handful of bands.
Andrew currently teaches Tuesday through Friday.
Ben has been teaching drums for an astounding 20 years! He also has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education, and a Master's degree in Jazz Performance, even though he prefers performing in rock bands. We are lucky to his wealth of knowledge and experience accessible to all students and teachers here in the studio.
Ben takes tremendous care to ensure students develop correct playing habits, and solidify their foundation of essential drumming skills, as he takes pride in his work as a teacher. He also transcribes drum charts for students, and has created his own set of worksheets and drill sheets that will transform your playing and account for all types of learning styles. He's also a pretty clever jokester, so be prepared for that too!
Ben plays at least 2 shows a week in the DC area, and students love watching him perform. Some of Ben's bands include The Coward's Choir, Derek Evry, Miss Shevaughn and Yuma Wray, Laura Tsaggaris, and Mud Rey.
Ben currently teaches on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
John Heinze teaches at 7DC four days a week, and just loves working with people. He is a great listener, and a laid-back, patient, and friendly person with great energy. He can customize a great lesson for you regardless of your ability or background, thanks to his wealth of teaching material, exercises, and beats. John will really stretch and grow your playing ability, understanding of rhythm, and how to play in a band.
John has a joint music degree from Parkland College and Northeastern Illinois University. He has a real thirst for knowledge and is constantly practicing and improving his own skills.
John currently plays in two local DC bands: The Lucky So & So's, a jazz/hip-hop band, and Aztec Sun, a funk/soul band. Hope to see you at a show!
John currently teaches Thursday through Saturday.
Isabelle De Leon started music at the age of 4 with Classical piano lessons, and drumming at the age of 7 after hearing someone say "girls don't play the drums," and has worked to defy that stereotype ever since. She's played drums for over 18 years, holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from University of Maryland, and has been teaching private lessons, drum clinics, and music camps for over 10 years. With her direct teaching style, she tells her students exactly what they need to do to achieve their goals, in a step-by-step, methodical way, and works on instilling a strong understanding of rhythmic concepts and timing.
She was an Artist-in-Residence at Strathmore Performing Arts in their 2012-2013 season, and is still one of their most employed educators. Currently she drums and writes for on-the-rise Indie Electronic trio, Prinze George, neo-soulstress Edy Blu, and freelances with many local artists of various genres and styles including jazz, latin, pop, rock, funk, and many more!
Isabelle currently teaches on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays.

Mitch was previously the Studio Manager at 7DC for six months before becoming a full-time teacher in August, 2015. He is a very easy guy to get to know, extremely knowledgable about music history, and loves to learn new things and share them with others. He devotes his heart and soul to his students and shares his 15 years' playing and performing experience in a very exciting way.
Mitch has a degree in Music and Communication at the University of Mary Washington, and has taken classes at Berklee College of Music. He also studied drums for about 10 years, and has an extensive background performing for pit orchestras in the DC metro. He was previously in a professional touring band called Miss Magoo and the Mystics, and currently gigs locally with various bands.
Mitch's lively and enthusiastic playing style has helped define his place in the DC music scene, and he's pumped to show you how to experience the thrill of drums!
Mitch currently teaches on Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays.
Winston has been a staple in the 7DC vibe since the early days. He is an extremely good listener and also extremely patient. He currently works full time as the middle school concert band teacher at PG County Public Schools, which gives him a unique skill set for private drum lessons.
Winston has a degree in Jazz Education with Percussion Concentration from Temple University. He has been playing drums for about 20 years, and gigs actively around the DC metro area, usually with jazz and soul-fusion bands. Winston can teach almost every instrument, but his true passion is drum kit.
Winston is a master at weaving rudiment ideas into fills, and making it easy for students to grasp. He's a super enthusiastic and positive guy, and has received many unsolicited glowing reviews from students. He's a blast to work with and will leave you smiling and laughing and ready for more!
Winston currently teaches on Saturdays.
Colin joined the 7DC team in the fall of 2015 and has since acquired a long roster of students due to his love of teaching and his general passion for music. Colin focuses on helping each student find their own voice and develop it, knowing that it makes the distinction between good and great drummers. He encourages his students to think outside the box, escape from their comfort zones and approach drumming in new and innovative ways.
In addition to drums, Colin plays piano, guitar and bass, but agrees that drums are undoubtedly the best. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Delaware, and is a stellar visual artist.
He's played with funk bands, jazz ensembles, pop and psychedelic rock groups, but has played and toured the longest with experimental pop band Young Rapids. He also plays with psychedelic grunge band, Bottled Up and has gigged with other D.C. artists such as Forgetter and El Mansouris.
Colin teaches Monday through Thursday.
