7DrumCity's
Impacted Students Fund

We love DC and our music community.
7DrumCity is committed to the wellbeing of our students, their families, and the DMV music scene. In these uncertain times, especially for folks in DC, we’re eager to live into our values and create opportunities to support one another through hardship.

That’s why we’ve launched this community-powered fund: to enable the scene to support the scene.
Our goal is to raise $10K this summer to help defray lesson costs for active 7DC students who have been impacted by recent job loss and instability. Active 7DC students will be able to apply for scholarships through a grant process launching in late summer. Donations will go directly to the fund to help eligible students and their families stay connected to music. We're proud to partner with our friends at the DMV Music Alliance to make this opportunity possible. Learn more in FAQs below.

2. Buy a new 7DC tank top for our summer swag fundraiser!

Our limited-run summer swag fundraiser is now on! Make your purchase by May 31st. A portion of sales will go toward supporting the fund.

3. Attend or host a 7DC Fundraiser Event!

We’ll be hosting a few special events at the STU this summer, where all proceeds go directly to the student support fund. We also encourage folks to get involved directly! You can feel free to use the QR code at upcoming shows or maybe link up with fellow 7DC musicians to host a fun fundraiser. Whether you want to put on a backyard show, a musical mixer, or interested in playing an event, use this form to let us know what you have in mind!

All options are a fun and meaningful way to give back while enjoying music and community. Dates and details for 7DC events coming soon.
Let's get creative for community!

Fund FAQs:

Why is 7DrumCity setting up this fund?
We want to do what we can to support our community and enable others to do the same. This is a particularly challenging and unpredictable time for many folks in the DMV, with locals facing sudden job loss and instability at disproportionate rates as compared to the rest of the country, and every little bit counts.
We believe that no one should have to sacrifice the things that make them happy, whole, and sane because of forces beyond their control. In fact, we need to outlets for creativity and community more than ever.

Who is eligible to receive funds?
At this time, only active 7DrumCity students who have been impacted by recent job loss and instability will be able to apply. This includes adult students and young students of 7DC families who've been impacted whether as a federal worker or in a local industry that's being affected by current conditions. Further details and criteria for applying will be shared directly with students in the coming months.

If I'm a 7DC student, how will I apply?
A grant application link, guidance, and further eligibility information will be shared directly to active students through 7DC’s student communications channels later this summer. We plan to make the process simple and inclusive. The grant application link will not be made publicly available, as folks who engage with 7DC as studio renters, Pocket performers, and non-lesson clients will not be eligible at this time while we see the response.

Can I still apply if I recently paused lessons?
Yes! If you were until recently an active 7DC student who had to stop taking lessons due to job loss, please reach out to [email protected].

How much support will be available? How would I receive the funds?
Our goal is to raise $10K to support active 7DC students impacted by recent job loss and instability. We’ll know how much funding will be available per student/household once we’ve concluded our first cycle of fundraising this summer. Our current target is to be able to fund 10 students with the average equivalent of music lessons for 3 months.
Those who are awarded a grant* will be able to use the funds at their discretion, whether directly for their lessons or otherwise. The idea being, you can still play music.

Can I target my donation to support a specific student?
All donations will go into a shared fund that eligible students will be able to apply for later this summer. Funds will be made available through a granting process in partnership with our partners DMV Music Alliance, a local 501-C3 with whom we're proud to make this opportunity possible.

Can I still donate after the summer fundraising window closes?
Yes! While we have a specific fundraising goal and timeline, ongoing support can help support students in a more sustained way, and possibly allow us to expand to support other folks in need in our 7DC community.

*More FAQs and details for interested applicants will be shared this summer. If you have any questions, we ask that you submit them here and a member of our team will get back to you with information as it's available. Thank you!
