Reid Williams is a versatile musician and instructor, proficient as a bassist, guitarist, and vocalist. He studied Jazz at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina, where he also took numerous courses in educational and childhood psychology. These courses emphasized the importance of creating a relaxed and positive learning environment, encouraging students to feel safe and supported before challenging them further.
Reid believes that before we play an instrument or sing, we first hear music in our heads. His goal is to help students translate that internal music onto their instruments. He teaches technique to improve the sound of what we hear internally and music theory to help organize and communicate those ideas effectively to others.
Reid has an extensive performance background, having played locally and toured with bands such as Spring Silver, Lucia Zambetti, and his own project, Dorinda. He has performed at notable venues like the 9:30 Club and Brooklyn Steel.
Growing up, Reid moved every two years until he was 14, meeting diverse people who have shaped his eclectic taste in music. As a result, he is capable of teaching a wide range of genres, from pop to jazz to metal, and is adaptable to the unique needs and goals of each student. You can catch him at the 7DC studio every Friday and Saturday.
