MUSIC THEORY LAB

Ready to stop guessing and start understanding?

Theory Lab is a practical course designed for adult musicians who want to unlock the "why" behind their favorite music. We skip the fluff and focus on the practical tools you need to write, perform, and analyze music with ease. Using the piano as our primary visual and hands-on tool, we’ll break down music theory concepts in a clear, approachable way. Over the 8-week course, you’ll learn how intervals, scales, and chords work together so you can apply theory directly to songwriting, improvisation, and reading music. By the end, you’ll feel more confident navigating the language behind the music you love.
Winter Session: Every Wednesday, February 4 – March 25
7-8 PM in The Pocket

What You'll Learn:

  • Piano-Centric Approach: We use the keyboard as our primary map, making abstract concepts like intervals and chord construction immediately visual and tactile.

  • Chord Mastery: Learn to identify and build chords on the staff and understand functional harmony (how one chord leads to the next).

  • Songwriter’s Toolkit: Gain the foundational knowledge required for songwriting, improvisation, and reading sheet music.

  • Efficient & Effective: This is a fast-paced course. With required student guides and homework, you’ll see massive progress in just eight weeks.

What To Bring:

A notebook and writing utensil.

Keyboards are provided for in-class use.
