Drum Pads brings drummers together for focused, guided practice in a group setting — the structure of a private lesson with the energy of playing alongside others. This is the beginner/intermediate entry point into drumming at 7DC: no experience required, and no drum kit needed.

Each week has a clear technical focus, and the session builds toward a group drumline-style cadence performed together on the final day.

What You'll Learn:

The 8-Week Plan:

• Stick Control & Rudiments: Build precision through foundational pad technique.
• Rhythm Reading: Count rhythms aloud and read basic notation off the page.
• Coordination & Timing: Play confidently with a metronome and transition between stroke types.
• Ensemble Playing: Lock in with other drummers and perform a group cadence.

Drum pads are not just a warm-up tool; they’re the foundation of drum mastery. Every beat, rhythm, and technique starts here, making them the true centerpiece of learning to play drums!

• Week 1 — Grip & Posture: Matched grip, seated posture, and your first controlled strokes.
• Week 2 — Single Stroke Roll: Building speed and evenness with single strokes.
• Week 3 — Double Stroke Roll: Introducing doubles and switching cleanly between the two.
• Week 4 — Reading Rhythms: Quarter notes, eighth notes, and rests — reading off the page.
• Week 5 — Paradiddles: The paradiddle family and hand-to-hand coordination.
• Week 6 — Metronome & Timing: Playing in time, subdividing the beat, handling tempo changes.
• Week 7 — Groove Building & Cadence Intro: Turning rudiments into a playable groove; learning the group cadence.
• Week 8 — Final Performance: The group performs the cadence together.
